Leather seat covers are an absolute must for any car that has leather interior upholstery. It is the only way to guarantee that your seats will be cleaned up nicely and protected from all sorts of dusts and stains. It also keeps dirt and dust from getting onto the upholstery itself.
However, leather seat covers aren't cheap. Even with the current economy, you could still save thousands of dollars on a car just by adding up the costs of a new leather seat. Leather seats can easily add several thousand dollars onto the cost of a car. As such, you might not get the full leather seat covers, either, as many manufacturers still utilize cloth for their seat inserts and backs. Some luxury cars actually come with leather as standard (although this is becoming increasingly rare as more people prefer cloth) instead of the natural leather. Still, even the most common models of cars usually come with synthetic leather (often referred to as leather) instead of the real thing. There's simply no substitute. The most common substitute is vinyl seat covers. They are very popular, but they are no where near as luxurious as the real leather material. Also, vinyl covers tend to dent and even stain a lot more than real leather. This doesn't mean they are bad, but it does mean that you'll need to pay a little more money to keep them looking good. There is another alternative to leather seat covers, one that's starting to become more popular - fabric seat covers. They're not really as luxurious as the vinyl options, and they also tend to fade and wear out a lot quicker than the leather. Fabric seat covers, however, are much less expensive than leather. If you can afford to spend the extra money, then you're well on your way to adding great looks and luxury to your car. Seat covers also come in different colors. You have the option of going with the traditional black, brown, or even gray. Of course, the most popular option right now is white. These days you can even find leather seat covers in other colors like blue, purple, red, yellow, orange, pink, and even green. Fabric seats can be removed and washed. Just make sure to use a proper cleaner, such as a leather degreasing solution before putting them back on. You don't want to use regular cloth or something that might scratch or damage the fabric. If you do wash fabric seat covers, keep in a dryer, make sure to dry them out completely. The different fabrics allow you to dress up the car in many different ways. If you choose to go with a fabric seat cover, you can even paint it yourself if you so desire. You can really add a great touch to any color of car. Leather seat covers aren't just for show. Sometimes they come with features that aren't available on fabric ones. For example, some designs and materials actually stretch to allow you to sit farther away from the dashboard. Leather seat covers can also be customized. These are pieces of art that can be designed to fit over the existing seat and include embroidered details, detailed stitching, and even additional embellishments. These custom seat covers can make for a great present for someone who is celebrating a special occasion. You can even get them engraved or personalized to show off your personal message to that special someone. It's important to keep in mind, however, that there's no substitute for leather. The only way to top leather seat covers is to go with the real thing.
